FASHION: DVF Carolina Lip Clutch and a Few Reasons Why She is Pretty Darned Legendary

I have recently become the biggest fan of Diane Von Furstenberg. Yes, I am a bit late on this one!

Not that I wasn´t a fan before, it´s just that lately, for some reason, I have become so aware of how much of a legend she is.

Here are a few reasons why…

She was formerly known as Diane, PRINCESS of Fürstenberg — I´m still not sure if she had a pony…most likely.

She has an Andy Warhol painting…of herself

She introduced an icon in women´s apparel….the wrap dress.

She is pretty much the most appropriate candidate to be any young career woman´s idol.

Also,

She has the best hair and wicked eyebrows.

In a nutshell, I want to be Diane Von Furstenberg when I grow up.

A big reason why I love her designs so much is that while being playful with so many patterns and colours, she still manages to make the wearer look elegant.

Which brings me to the Carolina Lip Clutch in her latest collection:  Playful yet Elegant…I really want this in my closet. Please Santa! I have been really good this year!

LOOKBOOK: It’s A Guy-Girl Thing

I admit that every woman wearing her man’s shirt will look sexy, no fail.

But what about when she wears her man’s…everything? Well, a few things :)

Having said that, today’s long overdue lookbook entry features an outfit that I absolutely love for the Fall! It also celebrates the fact that that women can indeed, do anything, including wear clothes that were originally made for men….and make them look sexier! Yey girls! :)

THE MOTORCYCLE JACKET:

These first appeared in 1928 and sold for $5 at the Harley Davidson Store in New York. Since then, it was worn by icons such as Marlon Brando and James Dean. In 1970, the one and only Ms. Debbie Harry cut off the sleeves and the rest is style history.

WORKER BOOTS:

Nothing mysterious about the origin of these boots! They were originally worn by working men on a construction site! Steel-toed Timberlands anyone? :) When the first prototype for women came out, I do not exactly know, but they are surprisingly feminine for an originally masculine shoe. I love this pair of Panama Jacks.

JEANS:

“Blue jeans” made from denim or dungaree, invented by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss, was originally made for cowboys. Not until the 1950′s did it become popular among teenagers.

With this look, If the boot is slim around the ankles, go for extra long skinny jeans then roll them up a little for a slight cuff to go over the boot.

If the boot has a large tongue, tuck the jeans in.

BURNT ORANGE TURTLENECK:

Hehe okay, not originally for men, but you must add a touch of your femininity to your “all guy” outfit. In my case, it is a classic turtleneck.

LIFESTYLE: The Art of the Long Morning

I cannot deny that given the chance, I could sleep straight into the afternoon without even trying! My boyfriend actually envies the fact that I can “catch up on sleep” 5 days in a row.

However, for a person that has the ability to sleep like a hibernating bear, I truly relish the days I wake up at a decent hour and have a truly “long morning” …

So what exactly do I mean when I say “long morning?”

Everyone has their own way of doing it. I, for example, take two hours to finish my coffee…and I don’t mind it getting cold. I still drink it.

One of my friends makes breakfast, does the laundry and watches a TV show, the other takes a nice shower. The long morning is quality time with yourself, and once you have mastered it, you will cherish it just as much as I do.

Tips to a successful long morning:

First: Make sure you don’t have any really pressing obligations, like an exam or meeting! Eep!

Wake up no later than 10am and do not do any work before 2pm

Don’t sleep in TOO late…the whole point of the long morning is…well…the morning!

Nix the drinks the night before

Need I say more? Hangovers kinda suck.

Wear a comfy sweater or PJ’s

Forget the contact lenses if you have glasses

And best of all…

Make the best cup of coffee (or tea) evarr!

So how do you guys relax in the mornings?

FASHION: YOUR “I DO” SHOE

I have been a little MIA over this past month. What can you do? summer makes many people MIA…especially in Spain! It’s such a different life in Europe. Vacations are sacred! It’s fantastic (when you’re on vacation!)

Anyway, in the past few weeks, I received TWO wedding announcements!! One of my best friends, and my cousin are getting married next year! And next year isn’t so far away! Weddings are really hard work, you have to think of minute details…from table settings, colour schemes, all the way down to your shoes…

I always ask myself what kind of wedding shoes would I wear! I guess it really depends where you are!

Guest Poster Andrew Wenzel gives us the when and where / do’s and don’ts of your “I do” shoe!

Depending on the type of bride you will be, the location of your wedding might help decide your style. With the dress—anything goes (just avoid heavy lace or velvet covering your body in an outdoor summer wedding). With the shoes—consider the terrain.

Meadow or Lawn Wedding

If you are walking down the aisle across a damp grassy knoll, save your stilettos for the after party or you may find yourself sunk, stuck or shoeless. There would be nothing worse than taking a fall in front of everyone. Consider flats for this type of ceremony. Whether you’re a romantic, shabby chic or wild bride, there are a wide variety of specialty slippers to consider for the special walk down the aisle.

If your heart is set on the new 3-inch high Christian Louboutin Cinderella slippers, try heel stoppers. This small invention makes a big difference by allowing you to keep standing tall in your stilettos. Heel stoppers are little attachments that widen the base of your heel allowing you to walk on grass and helping you avoid tripping on cracks. They can be adorned with stones and color to parallel your style.

Beach Bride

Avoid getting sand in your shoes by wearing either special flip flops or ballet slippers when sharing your vows near the sea. You can also simply go barefoot. Although an open-toe shoe is typically a “don’t” for the bride at her wedding ceremony, it’s perfectly acceptable to adorn your perfectly manicured feet with foot jewelry. Jewels are strung on an elastic strap that loops around your ankle and toe. Light and comfortable, foot jewelry, or “barefoot sandals,” is the perfect answer for the beach bride. Let the sand cushion your stroll to the alter.

Cobblestone Street

When marrying on cobblestone streets or stone walkways, consider wearing slings or classic pumps. With super-thin heels, you run the risk of looking clumsy on these ancient, uneven streets. There is still a lot you can do, even with shoe restrictions. The “shoe world” is your oyster, as far as style goes. You might consider your shoes be the good luck token of the “something blue” wedding tradition and choose a pale blue Prada sling or a Badgley Mischka cobalt peep toe.

Rain or Shine

This wedding is going to happen come rain or shine. If there is the slightest chance of rain, avoid velvet, suede or any other material that might be ruined if it gets wet. Think about what fabrics and textures work in different types of environment. If you’re getting married in a small space or on a rocky terrain, avoid patent leather because it can get easily scraped.

No matter the terrain you choose for your special day, be sure your shoes fit, are comfortable and appropriate. Go wild with color, studs and glitter. Unlike your wedding dress, you can wear these shoes again and again. The place to express yourself is under the dress. And, really, anything goes.

Thanks Andrew for your great post!

FASHION: Trends — Fall 2012 is almost in session!

Nobody likes to hear the summer season is ending, just like how no teenager likes to hear that school is starting! But summer going means that Fall is coming! :)

I was reading a few fashion magazines today and to my surprise (not really–I knew it was coming), all I saw were fall collections!  I then got excited! I love the fall and I love fall fashion. Growing up in the Philippines, I only experienced two seasons…rain…and shine. So when I got to a country that experienced leaves changing colour, I was overjoyed.

Upon finishing the magazines, I quickly got on Style.com and looked at a few fashion shows to see what the trends would be this fall!

Among the trends I saw a lot of bright colours, black and leather, as well as lots and lots of kaleidoscope patterns….and of course, big hats from Marc Jacobs.

A few however, caught my eye and really, really reminded me of a few high school stereotypes we all know and love….

THE PEP RALLY

STARRING: The Looks of Fall/Winter 2012-2013

BLUMARINE: I really loved the colours of the collection this year. It really emphasized on futuristic elements like metallic pastels and neons. And those bags reminded me of pom poms

See the full collection HERE

PRADA: What can I say, I really love how it makes me feel like I shouldn’t take life so seriously!

See the full collection HERE

RALPH LAUREN: “Elementary my dear Watson.”

GIVENCHY: This collection is one of my favourites!

JIL SANDER: Compete opposite of Givenchy and also one of my favourites this year. It was also Raf Simmons’ last collection for Jil Sander. I love the clean lines and colours.

MARC BY MARC JACOBS: This was the collection without all the crazy hats!

I hope you like my little scholastic trend report! Which look is your favourite?

FASHION: The Two Sides of Givenchy

I was reading the recent July 2012 issue of VOGUE and I loved the editorial they did on Emma Stone. My opinion, she is a great actress! So charming and I really enjoy her movies. My friend told me yesterday, “She is great at doing Lindsey Lohan’s old job as Hollywood’s redhead.” Indeed she is! Ten fold!

Anyway, back to the editorial, I loved it, especially how they dressed her up in a crazy, boyish dandy look. (Post about that look to come!) What really caught my eye  though, was the Givenchy dress she was wearing and how I am really loving the “lingerie outside of the bedroom” thing! What do you guys think? Too risque? Or would you totally wear it to a cocktail party?

See the entire Givenchy collection HERE.

ALSO! Now that you have seen the dress on the runway and on Emma stone, what are your opinions on the dress if you ONLY saw the runway version? Do you prefer VOGUE’s angelic portrayal or Givenchy’s homage to the gothic?? Opinions? :)
